No sector currently needs a measure of creativity and vision in the repurposing of assets more than retail and leisure. Previously, this may have been simply focused on creating more food and beverage space within retail destinations. More recently, projects aimed at converting unused retail space have had to consider a wider range of reconfigured retail formats or alternative uses, be it; leisure, residential, car parking or community.
The challenges currently faced by this sector also provide exciting opportunities for reimagining how best to use these assets in the future. Working with the likes of Hammerson, Land Securities and sector-specialist asset managers, leasing agents, consultants and architects has shown some fantastic examples of what can be done.
